Delroy Lindo, Amanda Seyfried and Tom Hanks weep today and with reason.
In another day of nominations, actor Delroy Lindo was snubbed by the Screen Actors Guild for Best Actor for his critically lauded performance in Da Five Bloods, expected to be a major Oscar player when their nominations are announced. It was the second day in a row Lindo felt the sting of being snubbed, let out of the Golden Globes race the day before though he collected the New York Film Critics Award in December. The veteran character actor gave the finest performance of his career in the film, and was expected to be a major player in the nominations. Also snubbed was Tom Hanks, who I think gave the best male acting performance of the year in News of the World, and who must be getting used to this by now, despite the injustice. After dominating the nineties, with two consecutive Academy Awards and two other nominations, Hanks has been nominated just twice in 20 years.
Surprises? Oh yeah.
Amy Adams in Hillbilly Elegy nominated for Best Actress? Seriously? Over the top, hammy acting that Adams never resorts too. And where, oh please tell me God, is Amanda Seyfried in Mank, pretty much everyone’s choice to win Best Supporting Actress? Not here, though I think the Oscars will correct this. I hope.
Crazy nomination, but the rest of the nominees were pretty much expected. Nice to see Vanessa Kirby included for Pieces of a Woman.
