By John H. Foote
Often the best predictor of the Academy Awards, often wildly off base, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards this morning at dawn in Los Angeles.
I will cover the film nominees, the television nomionees will come from Alan Hurst later in the day.
Surprises? A few. Mary Poppins Returns did very well with four nominations, while A Star is Born, as expected, racked up an impressive five nominations though Sam Elliott was snubbed for a nod for supporting actor, something that seemed a given. Black Panther received three nominations including Best Picture (Drama), while Spike Lee’s BlackkKlansman is up for four including Best Picture (Drama).
Vice leads the way with six nominations, while The Favourite, A Star is Born and Green Book have five each. Oddly First Reformed was left off the list completely, and Mary Poppins Returns was snubbed for any of its songs.
